The St. Margaret’s Centre first opened its doors in 1988 under the name of St. Margaret’s Arena & Community Center. Built by the community and driven by a strong dedicated group of volunteers, the St. Margaret’s Centre is now a major focal point of the area.

The SMC employs 30 to 50 staff depending on the time of the year.

The SMC consists of 26 Board of Directors – 10 Directors at large, 14 user group reps, and 2 youth directors.

We're located at 12 Westwood Boulevard just off of Exit 5 of Highway 103, in Upper Tantallon. Our facility overlooks the Sobey's plaza, and is within easy driving distance of Bedford, Halifax, and Chester.

We are open all year long and offering both ice surfaces as well. Our multi-purpose room is home to a number of Centre recreation and leisure programs.

The St. Margaret's Pool is home to the Bay Breakers Swim Team, and is open from late June until late August. We offer a wide range of aquatics programs, including Red Cross Swim lessons, which are all instructed by fully qualified staff. And yes, our pool is heated!!!!!

The SMC ice surface is full Olympic size 200'x100', and is very busy every day from early morning until midnight. In addition to the "Smith Ice" surface, we have added the "Fountain Ice" which features an NHL size pad 200'x85' and seating for approx. 1000 spectators. With these two magnificent ice surfaces at our disposal, we are home to several organizations including TASA Minor Hockey, St. Margaret's Bay Skating Club, Halifax/St. Margaret's Ringette, Halifax Regional Speed Skate Club and various adult recreational hockey leagues.

We have a full size gymnasium which serves as home to the St. Margaret's Bay Slam minor basketball league. Check out our fitness centre/weight room memberships and get fit!! Several multi-purpose rooms are available to rent for parties, meetings, or any other function. Our new canteen and eating area is another feature of the Centre that cannot be overlooked.
